Building to the Passivhaus standard – We are here to help.

PH15 works with you, enabling your creativity to flourish while we take care of the technical details. In addition to the design stage PHPP we provide a Part O and Part F1 check for overheating and where this indicates problems exist we can advise on  solutions. Although dynamic thermal modelling may be needed to show compliance we have often found that our low overheating approach demonstrated through the PHPP will provide building inspectors the assurance they require. Typically we design the system to achieve less than 2% overheating. We also take into account future climate predictions to ensure that the building can remain comfortable to live in long into the future.

1 Simplified Method

We are keenly aware of our responsibilities as part of the building industry to meet the challenges of climate change and of the 2030 Climate Challenge2. The award winning PH15 System uses natural, low carbon materials, including an off-site, pre-cut timber frame.
Because of this PH15 Passivhaus+ already meets the embodied carbon targets set for 2030 and we are constantly looking at ways to improve this further.
If you wish to design to the best possible standard and be part of the growing movement to drive up UK building standards, then working with us will enable you to achieve this now.

One problem we encounter frequently is the lack of space reserved for the MVHR system which is an essential requirement . . . read more

Why is a system approach so important?

The passivhaus approach and all the benefits that flow from it, depends on all the elements that make up the building working together. PH15 delivers this joined up methodology, with construction details that don’t need to be reworked with each new building. This saves time and money. The energy savings and comfort, the health benefits are all baked in. Sadly all too often between the design and the final implementation the critical components of the build are substituted and the relationship between the parts is lost. While new components can be checked and verified this adds costs. If this verification is omitted then some of the benefits of economy and comfort can be lost and with it a chance to make critical, long term improvements to our housing stock.

Our holistic approach cuts consultancy costs

By engaging with us early, savings can be made on external consultants. We can provide you with a design stage PHPP assessment and can act all the way through to certification if required. We can advise on Part O and F to meet building regulations and have a comprehensive set of thermal bridge calculations for both PHPP and SAP. We design the MVHR system ensuring it meets both passivhaus and Part F requirements. Once installed we commission the system to ensure it is in compliance with the design criteria.

We provide a calculation of embodied carbon in the foundation and frame for stage A1-A4. As some local authorities have introduced carbon assessments at the planning stage we can provide the required information to ensure compliance. That is why PH15 is so much more than just a timber frame.
